D-VHS is a digital video format invented by JVC. It uses the same physical cassette and recording mechanism as a S-VHS tape but requires DVHS tapes to record in high definition. The content data format is in MPEG-2 Transport stream, the same that is used for most digital television applications. The format was introduced in 1998.
