SSD replacing hard drive in computers

May 26th, 2010

PC`s are nearly ready to loose their internal hard drives for faster, less energy-intensive drives with flash memory, like in a camera or mobile phone, according to memory maker Micron. That is exciting news for victims of crashed hard drives and people who always want something new.

“I think it’ll be a story in 2011, and it’ll be pretty good penetration in 2012. But, you know, maybe I’m wrong,” said Mark Durcan, president and chief operating officer of Micron, during the Reuters Global Technology Summit.

There are some notebooks with SSD flash drives (like Apple’s super-thin MacBook Air) . but more are expected on the market as problems with this  technology are diminishing  — power efficiency now beats hard drives, and annoying problems which slowed solid state drives have been solved, he said, comparing now with when Appleton spoke, on the cusp of 2006.

“In 2006 it was the promise. It wasn’t the reality. But it’s real now.” Still, he added, computer makers are wary of the volatile prices.

How to save yourself with windows 7 in case of disaster

May 20th, 2010

The new Windows 7 has a built-in tool that walks you through making your own repair disc for serious system errors and major disastrous errors.

To make a repair disc, go to the Start menu and then the Control Panel area. Open the System and Maintenance category, select Backup and Restore. In the task panel on the left, click “Create a system repair disc” and follow the instructions on screen; you can use either CD or DVD.

If Windows 7 asks you to insert your installation discs, it means it can’t find the files it needs to make the repair disc, so you do need to dig up the original system discs here. Once you make the system repair disc, keep it too hand as it may come in handy. If you need to use it, boot up from the disc to see the system repair and recovery options at hand.

New Panasonic HDMI series

May 20th, 2010

With the HX series, silver coated solid metal composite of 0.32mm width is used for cord instead of ordinal twisted copper line. The metal composite has excellent characteristics for transmitting low frequency signals and is also coated silver for high frequency signals. It delivers a pure digital signal for the best picture and sound.

The flat shape of the cord keeps adequate distance between the inside lines and therefore avoids signal interference between them. Although a comparatively thick solid cord is used for the HX series, thanks to the flatness, it is still flexible enough to bend without data interruption. Connection becomes easier, even in the tight space behind flat screen TVs.

Are you in the Digital Age?

Survey of UK’s Digital Media Evolution

A Hewlett-Packard UK survey into the evolution of digital media in Britain reveals that we are far from being in the Space Age. Futuristic films which portray us with wireless gadgets are still a thing for the future.

found to be still using physical formats such as CDs and DVDs. They attach little monetary or emotional value to any digital content they may own. While 86% access some form of digital media, 68% still prefer photographs to be physical rather than digital, 64% for music, 75% for films and 95% for books. 39% of even the youngest age group still purchase CDs and DVDs alongside digital formats, great news for the music industry. More interestingly, 73% said they can never see a time when they would move to a 100% subscription model for their music and movies

Brits’ have a different approach to digital vs. physical. 71% said they have never lost their media library and are not concerned about security; while 27% put their digital media collection’s value at less than £50.  However, the survey showed that the benefits of being able to access and enjoy a broader range of contact thanks to the Internet is clearly appreciated. 86% of Brits enjoy some form of digital media, with desktop PCs (56%) being the main access device, followed by laptops (47%) and DVD players (28%).  14% did not access any form of digital content.
